I was first introduced to this film by my friend seven years ago, and I have ever since fallen in worship with Japanese anime. Seven years later, having enjoyed such pleasurable films as Grave of Fireflies, Exciting Away, Akira and Macross Plus etc., this film, Rurouni Kenshin Tsuiokuhen(as it is known in Japanese), detached holds a special spot in my heart and will never be replaced by anything.

What makes this film a classic is the degree of perfection the makers were aiming at from every angle. Interrogate it from a superficial perspective, the drawing for instance, is lush, sensual and very realistic. When falling leaves topple in water you can search for the ripples; when blood drops on snow it really sinks into it. Everything is shaped and executed with utmost poetry and beauty, and this is legal even for the bloody scenes in the movie. In a fighting scene in which Kenshin kills the girl’s fiance, the camerawork strikes me as breathtaking and highly effective, it really gives the action bustle and momentum and makes it sparkle with fire.

More importantly, the record and characters are what do this film memorable. I have to congratulate the makers of this film because they had an valid script to begin with, into which they weaved elements of tragedy and oriental fatalism, making it into an fable and legendary sage of appreciate and sacrifice. First off, the tale starts with a gory scene of massacre, the sky has a color of blood, and the music is shadowy and spine-tingling, setting up a tragic tone for the entire film. In this setting we meet the small boy Shinta(later to become Kenshin) for the first time, he is the only presence in that scene that resembles innocence in this world, but soon later his innocence will be forever lost as he witnesses the killing of the three sisters.(This scene is carried out with ruthless realism and precision, for some people it can be unbearable.) The contradiction in Kenshin’s life is that, he believes that through killing he can succor bring a fresh world to the people, but each time he kills he feels large guilt and unrest. To salvage solace and explain for his actions, he keeps reminding himself that he is serving for a cause that will eventually bring salvation to the people from war, famine, and improper government. But slowly he begins to realize the fact that the people he’s trying to eliminate are fair oridinary human beings; by killing them he is actually destroying families and making others suffer, and that in turn makes himself suffer in guilt. All this makes him nothing more than a killing machine, a tool! The more deeply he realizes about this truth, the more tormented he feels inside his heart. So at this point, a current character is introduced, the girl named Tomoe who is a sparkling figure shrouded by an aura of mystery and feminine beauty, a person who is skedaddle to change Kenshin’s life forever….

I loved the diagram history and fiction are intertweaved in this film to construct a record that is simultaneously legendary and credible. It has been remarked that the character of Kenshin is loosely based on a staunch person, and the political figures featured in the anime have all existed in history. After thoroughly enjoying this film, I actually consume some time looking into the history of 19th century Japan, specially on circumstances surrounding the Meiji Restoration and various key figures in that revolution. And this research has led me to greater appreciation of the film. More often than not, you don’t net such succesful combinations of history and fiction in films alot; another marvelous example that immediately comes to mind is the award-winning film of 1984, Amadeus, which retells the life of Mozart in a funny and sensational blueprint.

Finally, I’d also like to comment on the music in this film. The music is improbable from beginning to kill! Not only in the sense that it effectively supports and amplifies the drama, but the music alone forms an emotional slump. It is soulful and introspective, at times dismal but weepingly splendid. If you listen to the soundtracks in beefy cycle, scenes in the film reach benefit to your mind in intelligent details. I remember when I watched this film for the first time, I was left spellbound and speechless as the ending theme sounds its first notes. In the waste the music takes you all the draw relieve to where the account started, at which point you hear small Shinta talking to his master, and you are overwhelmed by a flood of emotions as this frightening but hauntingly lovely chronicle is brought to conclusion in a cyclic develop.

When buying this box place, you are getting your money’s worth. Usually, this box dwelling runs anywhere from 90-100 USD in some stores, but on Amazon, it practically cuts it in half.

This product does not appear to be a bootleg and is very upright on the subtitles.

It doesn’t have giant robots or over exasperated anime characters with stars shouting and dancing around. It’s not that type of series. It’s a memoir…a very righteous legend albiet with extremly black themes, but done tastefully enough as to exercise the dismal imagery to pick up points across about the sad side of human nature without grossing out the audience or focusing in on it too powerful.

If you are looking for action, explosions and an lively romp of anime this isn’t it. If you are looking for smart anime with a trustworthy spot line and animated character develolpment (which i must admit is rare sometimes in the anime world) then this is definately worth your money to assume.

Satoshi Kon is one of the most inovative writers/directors. All it took was one viewing of the pilot episode to be zigzag. I felt that the first few discs were stronger than the last two. I did especially like the “preview” at the raze of the last episode. To say anymore would give away the enjoyment. I highly recommend also Perfect Blue and Millennium Actress by Kon as well.

Peter Jackson once said that he had a “moronic” sense of humor, and it shows here in all its grimy glory. What if the Muppet Explain were plagued with every kind of seediness? Sex, drugs, puppet porn and some really disgusting vomiting (and cast members occasionally eating one another), and a machine-gun massacre are spattered over this yarn — and while you may not want to, you’ll fancy it. Jackson’s cherish of splatter-gore shows in a row of birds crushed by a barrel and plenty of flying body parts arrive the finale. It’s so incredibly in “abominable taste” that I simply couldn’t finish laughing. (Warning to those with outmoded stomachs: This movie is not for you) He even touches on some spicy questions like: What kind of offspring would two puppets of different species have?

And Jackson knows to balance out all the unhappy characters with likable ones too: Arfur the doe-eyed worm and Lucille (poodle) and Robert (porcupine) as the adoring lovers.

The downside? The DVD is fuzzy and overly dim in places, like a videotape that has faded badly. This is a particular pickle in scenes that choose plot in semi-darkness, which many backstage ones do. The extras are… more or less nonexistant. Hopefully this film will be rereleased in a format more estimable of it.

You might be able to peer Kermit and Miss Piggy and the rest of the Muppets after you’ve seen “Meet the Feebles.” But I promise you that you will never, ever notice them the same intention again. “Meet the Feebles” is sick, funny, and utterly hooked — not a masterpiece, but brilliantly, weirdly, insanely humorous.

On the other hand, Nietzsche would not likely have favored the sort of politicization of the ideal of the superman that the Nazis promulgated. He would have left politics aside concerning how the future of humanity was to unfold so long as it interested a revolution in our good values. (He deemed former — especially Judeo-Christian morality — perverse, an enemy of a fully flourishing, instinct-driven human life!)

Professor Hicks’ presentation is immensely rich with facts, quotations, analysis, and insight. All that said, and record quality aside, this is an outstanding movie and a broad portrayal of 1983 in England, down to the cars and the music. The only thing I remember that’s completely missing here is enraged political debate. Britain was four years into Margaret Thatcher in 1983, and politics and social clashes were very worthy on people’s minds, including students like these, and Alan Bennett completely omits that.

But that’s my only criticism. Richard Griffiths, who is a mature British actor whose face would be instantly recognisable to any Brit seeing the movie, is fabulous, on a “Goodbye Mr. Chips” level and better than “Unimaginative Poets Society.” Indeed, “History Boys” beats “Dull Poets” simply because it’s not Hollywood-ized, it’s a worthy more true movie.

It’s got mammoth bullseye detail, too, like the church service at the beginning where the robed priest ministers to a congregation of three, which is the situation of the Church of England, Britain almost completely lacking American-style religion at this point, a very secular space despite the lack of division between church and status.

Dominic Cooper as Dakin, Samuel Barnett as Posner and Russell Tovey as Rudge stood out for me, but all the boys are gigantic, and all of the types felt very remarkable familiar to my memories.

The movie is often comic, the dialog extraordinary, the contrivance the boys are and the classroom scenes perfectly pitched. The valuable scene is the one where Griffiths tutors Barnett one-on-one, and it’s principal because it tells us exactly why Griffiths’ character is a tall teacher, which has to be established.

The ending doesn’t bother me. This is Alan Bennett: This is about ideas. The ending furthers the ideas.

This is the same playwright who brought us “40 Years On,” yet a great different play and a mighty different conception of a grand changed Britain — and that’s why Bennett has endured, because he’s changed with the culture.

This is a huge movie if you’re not offended by frank discussion (and ambiguity) about late-teen and adult sexuality, if you’re a bit of an Anglophile, and if you’re willing to sit serve for something that’s really a long conversation rather than an action movie. All of which is why it’ll have small success this side of the substantial pond.

(3.5 stars) Site in the 1980s in a boarding school in the north of England, this newly released film adaptation of Alan Bennett’s play (which won six Tony Awards during its 2006 Fresh York race), follows eight young “sixth-formers” who are preparing for the history entrance examinations for Oxford or Cambridge. To support the students prepare for the exams, the headmaster hires a young teacher, Irwin (Stephen Campbell Moore), to improve the students’ “presentation” so that they will stand out from the crowd. Irwin’s goal is to notify the students to believe “outside the box”–not to be dull–when they reply examiners’ questions.

His mission conflicts with the goals of the English and History teachers. Hector, the motor-cycle-riding English teacher (Richard Griffiths), has taught the students reams of poetry, along with the French subjunctive (though it is not his subject), having students practice their French by pretending to negotiate at a brothel. He takes the long conception and values education for its acquire sake. The History teacher, Dorothy Lintott (Frances de la Tour), has taught the facts: “Plainly stated and properly organized facts need no presentation, surely,” she remarks to the headmaster. The students’ efforts to be approved at Oxford drive the action.

The film features many of the same actors who appeared in the stage play, notably the intellectual Griffiths as Hector, the sensitive Moore as Irwin, the tough-talking, heart-of-gold de la Tour as Dorothy Lintott, and the same eight students, joking, bantering with their teachers, and pursuing their popular subject–sex. The film, however, is very different in tone from the play. In the play the conflict between the teachers and their views of education unites the action and gives depth and universality to strong themes. In the film, this conflict is noteworthy less definite, with the themes largely subordinated to questions about sexual orientation by various students and their possible abuse by a teacher. Some characters (especially the headmaster, Clive Merrison) are caricatures, a startling disagreement to the more realistically presented students.

In some ways the film is better than the play. The film shows the students within the context of a vast school, and film close-ups create their emotional conflicts an intimate experience. Hector (Griffiths) is a far more sympathetic character in the film, due in sizable fraction to the close-ups, and Irwin has a more fully developed role. Unfortunately (and I’m not clear how universal this pickle is), the film I saw (in a major theater chain), was fuzzy, with vertical dusky lines showing throughout the entire film, making it appear more like an 8 mm home movie than a major studio production. The film tries to grasp advantage of the broader possibilities of film vs. stage, but as the context broadens, the film becomes less unified, and the drama loses some of its punch. n Mary Whipple

“The St. Valentine’s Day Massacre” is the kind of film that needs to be approved on its absorb terms. To interrogate by-the-book authenticity, or post-1970 graphic violence, or extensive place shooting, is asking far too considerable. There’s an early scene in which George Segal, as one of the murderous Guesenberg brothers, intimidates a speakeasy owner into buying beer supplied by Bugs Moran. His tactics are similar to those employed by James Cagney in “Public Enemy,” and it is this exiguous homage that should train viewers that the film is going to effect a mere pretense of accuracy - and that this is impartial graceful. “Massacre” is a thoroughly engrossing film that never tries to be anything more or less than that.

Fred Steiner’s jangling, dissonant collect deserves a mention. It has a Charleston-like rhythm, dominated by a piano. It’s an oddly effective thing, heard to best attain over the extinguish title.

Among the cast, no one turns in what could be called a luminous performance, but Ralph Meeker probably comes off best as Bugs Moran, particularly as he utters the crime boss’ most noted quote, arrive the destroy. Jean Hale definitely got my attention as Segal’s girlfriend, and Clint Richie is appropriately sly as Machine Gun Jack McGurn, who masterminded the title killings.

I found the movie delectable even though Jason Robards hardly resembles Al Capone. The movie has Al Capone slitting the throat of rival Joe Aiello on a advise as he attempted to leave Chicago before the Massacre was even planned. However, Joe Aiello died from a hail of bullets on October 23, 1930, as he left an apartment building, more than a year after the Massacre took station. This would have been an easy fact to substantiate, yet the film contains this unnecessary error. The movie also has Albert Anselmi and John Scalise murdered by Capone with a baseball bat in “Capone’s mansion” following a banquet honoring them. The killings actually took status in a Hammond, Indiana, road house. In addition, Joe Guinta was a third one clubbed to death at that time. Finally the movie includes Boris Chapman and Adolph Moeller as two who took allotment in the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre. That may or may not be, but no mention is made of Fred “Killer” Burke who it is widely believed to be one who definitely took allotment in the killings. The movie was very challenging and worthwhile, but the inaccuracies that I have mentioned could certainly have been easily checked out.

This is one of my celebrated Elmo videos! I know, I got it for my now 17 month primitive daughter a few months ago, but it’s one I can either smash in the recliner to notice with her, or leave her to glimpse it while I do dishes, straighten up, etc. My daughter loves anything musical, and this has fun, catchy cramped ditties from beginning to raze! We rotate this one with several other Elmo videos–for mom and dad’s back, not the exiguous one’s! (she could survey it every day!) If you have a shrimp Elmo fan in the house, you MUST absorb this video!

It would have been nice if CTW had assign more than one 30 min video onto the DVD version at least, like they do with Believe in the Great Blue House DVDs, where they let you play one or all three as you determine. No separate sing-along-songs share either. I would query more from the DVD version. Barney DVDs too are so feature filled! Other than that, its improbable — the segments are tied together by Elmo needing an entry for an art explain, and are flashbacks tied to various pictures he has drawn. There are many really nice songs on it — ” One radiant face ” sung with Ernie, Ecstatic Tappin with Elmo, Five Jive, Elmo’s song and so on. They are so catchy and fun, we can’t discontinuance dancing/playing along with the songs. The DVD version is astronomical for an instant encore on our celebrated segments :-) If your child is petrified, you might want to perceive the especially the fragment with Julia Roberts in it with baby on your lap the first few times, since Elmo and Julia “panic” each other.

Part 2 of Nip/Tuck season Five is only sightly better (less chaotic, and not as wearisome) than Portion 1 (which i would rate 2/5) . It is quite dim how far this point to has fallen. If you are a hardcore fan of the explain, grasp this plot up, if not, leave it alone.

I’m here not to complain about stamp, but the quality of the exhibit. Season five was a mixed bag of inane legend lines, many stretches of chronicle and state were it impartial came of as “No they didn’t do that…how lifeless!!” This season suffered design more than a lot of other crazy/zany/impossible sort of Nip Tuck-esque storylines. Season 5 of Nip Tuck wasn’t that immense. Too many topics were a come….a ample time come that made the expose unwatchable at times. Stick to seasons 1-3 and perhaps some of #4 if you want classic, new, Nip Tuck.
